Precision gears, reducers and hoists — made in Bremen.
Westerman is the original OEM for Alten gear boxes, proudly made in Bremen, Ohio. We offer repair services along with new gear box manufacturing — precision design and manufacturing that results in optimum performance in the field.

Gear Boxes & Herringbone Reducers
Westerman is the original OEM for Alten gear boxes, proudly made in Bremen, Ohio. Our speed reducers feature a solid housing that provides ample strength for proper gear alignment. The Alten G-series herringbone gear speed reducers use continuous tooth gearing that increases strength and dimensional accuracy of high caliber.

Marine Hoists
Marine hoists, wheels and cradle assemblies for ship transfer and shiplift systems — including 625-metric-ton shiplift hoist sub-assemblies with 20-meter travel, built to Lloyd's Register certification standards.

Oil-Bath Lubrication Design
Our gears and bearings operate in a flood or bath of oil, with self-adjusting wipers on the sides of the slow speed gear ensuring a steady return of oil. The result: precision equipment that has surpassed four decades of operation in the field.
Heritage
Two centuries of gear-making craft.
Westerman, Inc. — a member of the American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) — acquired Alten Machine Works, Inc. in 2012. The Alten Company was established in 1889 in Lancaster, Ohio as a blacksmith shop. Soon after its establishment, a machine shop was added to the facility, and in 1910 the foundry operation began.
